The CEO of mega UK gaming company Rank has decided to seek an overhaul of the British taxation system as it regards the gaming industry and the fees levied against game operators. Having hosted such luminaries as Alistair Darling and David Cameron at his casino and bingo facilities in the past, CEO Ian Burke is believes that now is the time for change in the heavy handed taxing of Britain’s gaming operations, a key source of income for the nation at this time. Rising taxes, a ban on smoking in gaming environments and the banning of machine based gaming has struck hard at the income Rank depends on and the CEO has stated that his company has gone to great lengths to return to their former lucrative years in order to bring the same level of fun to their customers. The leisure industry as a whole has faced great challenges, he says, in the face of a global economic downturn that has rocked Britain’s economy to its very foundation.

While growth has been fragile at best, earnings have gone up 3.4% in the past year, but the £26 million paid in taxes has been tough to grow around. A tax hike of a full 7% has severely changed the way Rank and other similar companies do business and Burke believes this has to be dealt with in order for the industry to grow. While the situation now looks a bit gloomy, experts believe that once the economy is restored to better health, taxes will most likely be lowered to adjust and allow the gaming industry to expand more rapidly as Burke is advocating.

So many different wagering games have histories that are hard to know or just plain unknown, but bingo is not one of those games at all. Instead, it is clearly known that during the 1400’s, a game began in Italy that was called the clearing of the lots of Italy or in Italian, Lo Giuoco del Lotto d’Italia. This game would capture the hearts and minds of the Italian people and it is still a very powerful tradition in that land, but after it was created, the concept traveled north into France where it would become popular in a French version and spread over into Germany where it was used to teach children a variety of different subjects such as the alphabet, the numerical system, names of animals and the names of plants. This development seems to have been spaced widely from those days and time when it would be re-discovered by a salesman from New York City who went by the name of Edwin Lowe. One day, when Mr. Lowe was traveling through the US state of Georgia, he came across a carnival and decided to investigate. He noticed a large group of people gathered around one of the games so he took a look and saw a game that the carnival people were calling beano. He stayed to watch and saw opportunity. When he got back to New York City, he decided to try and invent a variation of the game so that he could sell the cards to it. This is when he began testing and discovered that New Yorkers loved the game, as well. During one of the tests, someone yelled out bingo instead of beano and the name stuck. They did not know that the word bingo was actually first used in England during during the 1770’s, but it still fit very well.

From this sparking point, bingo would go on to become a very popular way for charities and churches to raise money for a huge variety of different causes. Then it would become a popular game to play for money in bingo halls and in casinos around the country. It would spread to the United Kingdom and there it would become even more popular than it ever had been in the US. This set the stage perfectly for the mid 1990’s when the web first came into prominence. Once this occurred, many sites began to crop up offering various online casino games and online bingo finally got its first start online. This proved to be a very smart move by those site owners because the game was wildly popular by the year 2000. Today, that popularity just keeps building and building with a growing demographic of mostly young adult women enjoying the game on a regular basis. In fact, so many millions of people no play bingo online that it has actually become a billion dollar industry. There are hundreds of bingo sites that one can play in and a wide variety of software packages that make the whole gaming process a lot easier for the players. Chat is huge in bingo games and has become a major draw for players who can be found gaming at all times of the day and night.

It is true that the United Kingdom has often been the starting place for a huge number of global traditions and when it comes to games of chance and wagering, this is no exception. While the UK may not have been the original birth place of bingo as we know it today, there have been a number of traditions now in the game that started here and one of those is the installation of 90 ball bingo as a major form of bingo that is offered in this country. Games of wagering a big business in the UK today and there are many different ways to go about things from sports betting to online poker, but perhaps the biggest of them all is bingo, a past time that is enjoyed by an enormous range of people living here who play both in land based facilities like casinos and bingo halls or who take part in the fun of the game over online sites. There are a growing number of online bingo web sites that were founded or are run from the UK and this has contributed to helping those who find the halls and casinos a bit too crowed to be able to have a little fun from anywhere they might care to log in and enjoy a session of bingo while chatting with friends. The history of bingo in the UK is quite extensive so it comes as no surprise that today this is one of the biggest passions among those who enjoy competing for prizes both online and off – and there are no signs of a slow down in the bingo industry coming any time soon.

The social nature of this game has done a lot to increase its popularity as the British people have always been a social lot and this has lead to many major brands beginning to offer their own forms of bingo over the web. Mega brands like Virgin, Yahoo, MSN and AOL all offer their own unique spin on bingo through their sites and each of them has hundreds of thousands of players. Many love to compete for increasingly larger jackpots and there is certainly no end in site as bingo has become something of a nation past time in the UK today. The biggest segment of bingo players, which might come as a surprise to many, happens to be women between the ages of twenty and twenty five, many of who not only play regularly online while chatting with friends, but who also attend a variety of different themed events in bingo halls across the country. This demographic has fueled exceptionally rapid growth in the industry and experts predict that they will drive it far further as the girls who come up beneath them continue to embrace the game once they come of age. The 24 hour nature of modern bingo has helped provide an entertaining outlet for all players no matter what time of day or night it is and savvy marketers are helping create a fun lifestyle associated with their brands which only means one thing: more players joining in on the fun.

Parlay Entertainment – A huge name in the bingo gaming web sector, Parlay powers a number of very important gaming site’s casino software through their bingo software package solutions. In their own words they were the inventors of online bingo and while that may or may not be entirely true depending upon one’s perspective, they do in fact power the sites of Virgin, MSN, Yahoo, AOL ande a number of other online bingo sites.

Playtech – Arriving on the scene in 1999, Playtech is another fairly new company to enter the online bingo gaming world, but they are the company behind the Bingoland Network and thus have a lot of clout in the industry today, being exceptionally popular as far as bingo sites go.

Nearly all of us have played bingo of one form or another simply because it is one of the most common games found in grade schools in many different countries. Those who have played that style of game or any of those found in the land based casinos or bingo parlors will already have a very solid idea of how the game is played on the web, as well. All that one needs to get started is a computer, an internet access account and the site of their choosing. Firstly, they will need to set up an account on the bingo site and to do this, usually a debit or credit card is required so that the account holder’s identity can be validated as well as information about where to draw payments for the games from and where to deposit all of the winnings from the bingo games. The fact that bingo is so convenient online means that players will be able to access the games of their choice a full 24 hours a day and go head to head against a number of other players any time that they might like to. This definitely adds to the appeal of the game and that means there are literally hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions, playing over the web at any given time. Signing up is very easy and there are actually a huge number of different bonuses that are offered by bingo sites online that players can use to their advantage to get several games for free right off the bat after their first deposit has gone through into their account.

Once all of the information and details have been provided to the site for verification and the account has been funded, it is time to move on to the process of choosing the game that best suits the player’s individual needs. Since there are such a huge range of online casinos and bingo sites on the web right now, there are also a vast number of different game styles to choose from, almost all of which constantly have enough players for quite a rousing game. This means that there are a number of different styles of cards available and while the rules may differ slightly, the overall game is always to fulfill the pattern required, be it a line or a complex pattern, as the numbers are printed up on the player’s screen. There are auto daub features that can help the player, too, by checking off the called numbers on the cards that they have purchased. This normally lets players be able to chat while the game takes place and certainly adds to the fun factor of the game by freeing up player time to socialize. Some games even offer a feature that will highlight the cards closest to bingo so that the player can call it out as soon as its struck. That is really as easy as it gets, bingo is a great way to socialize and couldn’t be easier to play.

For centuries before the internet was ever invented, bingo played a role of one form or another in the countries of Italy, France, German, the United States and the United Kingdom. It wasn’t until 1929 that the first version of bingo as we know it today was invented, but it wouldn’t be long until it was practically an institution first in the US and then later on the UK where it has flourished wildly. The social atmosphere of the gaming combined with the wagering opportunity for prize money has definitely propelled bingo’s success to extremely high levels and that is what made it such an apt fit for the dawning internet. In fact, before many other casino sites ever got their start, there was a bingo industry online that was thriving in the mid 90’s and it has continued to flourish despite opposition from time to time from various sources. Some of the first sites that ever offered wagering games over the web were offering bingo in those days and it would not be long before the industry would thrive, grabbing a wide variety of people and not even those who frequented the land based establishments that offered bingo. The fact that bingo is used to teach children in grade school and also the fact that it is regularly used to raise money for charity groups helped it be a natural fit for the web because it was already familiar to so many people of all ages. Those first bingo sites did so well that many believe they may be part of the reason that the online casinos really took off once they saw how well the bingo gaming sites were doing.

Some experts say that it was 1994 when the first offerings of real bingo on the net started by a company called Microgaming, but it is unclear precisely when the first bingo wagering games first set up shop. Today the industry continues to thrive because by the year 2000 there were hundreds upon hundreds of sites coming online and this is largely due to the wild popularity of bingo in the UK. With the added convenience of simply pointing and clicking to play, plus a well defined e-wallet system, bingo grew rapidly through out the first decade of the new millennium until today in the UK alone it is over a billion dollar a year industry that services millions upon millions of players in a wide variety of different bingo games. The fact that players are able to log in and get their fix twenty four hours a day has really improved the scene and given bingo to anyone who would like to play no matter where they might be at the time. The advances in software have made the game so easy that many players think of it as a chat room where they can win money – a huge boost to the industry’s perception in the minds of players world wide. The future of online bingo definitely looks bright and is only expected to grow with time.

75 Ball Bingo
For those players who reside in either the United States or Canada, it is 75 ball bingo that will be most familiar to them because this is the style of bingo game prevalent in those nations. Of the two major forms of bingo, 75 and 90 ball bingo, no one is sure why 75 ball bingo holds such sway in the countries where it does, but experts suggest that it is simply a matter of tradition rather than anything more complex. Many other forms of bingo exist, but this is the traditional variety in land based venues such as bingo halls and casinos. Other than the particular card layouts that tend to be offered with either of the two major varieties of the game, there are very few differences and bingo is determined the exact same way for both types. In 75 ball bingo, players usually make use of a 5 x 5 bingo playing card on which they will mark off numbers as they are announced by the caller. There is generally a free space in the middle of the card that players get to mark off at the beginning of the game, similar to a wild card in a card game. Patterns needed to achieve bingo will vary from game to game, but can include the traditional straight lines or even far more complex shapes that must be formed first. This is generally a faster paced style of the game than 90 ball bingo, but there is an even faster version where the callers frantically move from number to number that is referred to as Speed Bingo.

90 Ball Bingo
Those who live in South American or European countries will most likely have been exposed to 90 ball bingo as the primary variant offered and the same holds true for both Australia and the United Kingdom, as well. This also happens to be the style of bingo that is most common through sites on the web since the majority of gaming sites today are based in or around the UK where the largest number of regular bingo players now reside. This particular style of bingo makes use of 9 x 3 cards that have 5 spaces for numbers per line. There are 3 rows and 9 columns per card so that each card has 15 spaces for numbers. Columns are numbered in sequences of 10, ranging from 1 to 90. Since the game is actually played in a triple stage format it is considered to be more complex than its 75 ball cousin. The introductory stage of the game starts off with players simply attempting a bingo by completing one line, but then it is on to stage two where those gathered will attempt to go for a two more lines. Finally, it is on to stage three, known commonly as Full House, where the players will attempt to mark off all 15 of the numbers on their card and win the largest prize of the game. This is the stage that the majority of players have been looking forward to because it is generally when the largest prizes are awarded to the winner.

Any of the players who have been around the bingo online gaming scene for a while now would be able to say that a site with very few players on it is not likely to be around for long and that one of the ultimate keys for success to any bingo site is the ability to attract enough players to keep the games nice and large so that the jackpots won can be of sufficient size. This means that there are going to be different types of players out there, too, and not everyone will like the same style of gaming. As a result, the bingo industry on the web started to diversify and try to serve a number of different kinds of personalities by providing not just bingo, but bingo the way their particular players wanted to experience it. Since this would be difficult to pull off without a massive adverts campaign, it came to the bingo networks to help solve the problem by connecting a very large number of different bingo portal sites together so that they could all share players who would be able to compete in much larger games. These players then had more choice in where they would like to game while still getting a larger game experience the way they wanted to. The arrangement worked out well for both players and providers so today this is the primary way that bingo is served up over the web. Experts believe that it is the future of gaming on the web as we know it.

In order to keep the networks running properly and ensure that each site had control over its theme, design and other elements that helped it offer a unique experience to the gamers that logged in, there needed to be software developed and this came about in a form called While Label Gaming software. This is the backbone of the bingo networks and it is what connects all the different sites to the same server so that they are able to host games in their own way. This is terrific for the players, but it also allows the smaller companies to focus on serving their own players instead of lumping everyone into the same pile of players at a giant company where they may not be able to get very good customer service. This is one of the main innovations in online bingo and it is what has allowed the industry to grow so rapidly. Each site in the network gets to decide how it wants to advertise itself and take care of its users, so that there are a huge range of different online bingo brands out there these days, each of them catering to specific types of customers. A number of different bingo software providers have stepped forward to offer these white label solutions and because of that, the number of bingo networks on the web is also growing at a considerable rate with each and every passing day. Bingo networks are here to stay.

While bingo may be a relative newcomer to the world of wagering games, it is certainly not unpopular for its newness. The fact is, bingo is huge business in many countries around the world, but most especially in the United Kingdom. Bingo sites sprang up to answer the needs of the major countries that are now online and playing regularly. These include: Australia, Canada, the United States and the UK, among many other nations in both Europe and South America where the game is growing in popularity. Due to this popularity, there are a growing number of sites online with more and more seeming to spring onto the web each and every day. All of them offer 24 hour play which is convenient for the players who have the freedom to play whenever they want from wherever they would like to. Since all they need is an internet connection and either a computer or a mobile phone, it is quite easy to get started in the world of web bingo and there are many sites designed to all sorts of different tastes out there today. Players usually sign up and then use an electronic wallet service (also known as an e wallet) to fund their gaming account and collect their winnings. These are designed as a way of keeping things fair with both the site or online casino and the player themselves. This added level of security has worked well to fuel the growth of the market and today online bingo is an industry that regularly does over a billion pounds per year in the UK alone – the nation where bingo is currently the most popular.

The surprising thing about online bingo is the demographic that has fueled the vast majority of its growth is one that experts did not expect at all: women between the ages of 20 and 25. These are the customers who keep the sites afloat and it is suspected that the reason they have been so quick to embrace online bingo is due to the highly social nature of the game. Whether it is 75 ball bingo or 90 ball bingo, the fact is that it is often the chat feature which really gets people involved in the site. Being able to log in at any time and have fun while chatting with one’s friends has definitely spurred the growth of this nascent industry. The fact that most bingo sites can be played straight through the web browser already on one’s computer makes the process very easy, but there are also specific sites that offer downloadable software for users that lets them play in a richer environment. These days, bingo networks help make sure that there are plenty of players in each game so that the jackpots are as big as the dreams of those playing. Only years ago a pot that went as high as a million pounds would have been unthinkable, but in today’s bingo environment it is a reality. That alone has brought a lot of new players into the fold to enjoy bingo over the web.
